"I'd rather sleep in my car"
2.17
by Alisha (from Lethbridge)
August 2007 - I've stayed in many $39.95/night fleabag motels and they were far superior than this one priced at $140/night.
* the toilet was broken so every time we flushed it, I needed to take the lid off and jiggle the parts inside to stop the water from running continuously.
* there was no heat in the room despite me turning to the thermostat up before we went to bed. When we got up in the morning it was very cold so I cranked it up to 26C and we finally felt heat.
* the toiletpaper holder was broken so the roll had to sit on the side of the bathtub.
* the shampoo wasn't new. The seal was broken which means someone else used it or the hotel simply refilled the bottle. Either way, that's not sanitary or what I'd expect from a hotel.
* the shower ran either scalding hot or frigid cold.
* over the vanity, only two of the four lightbulbs worked.
I'm not even going to get into the fact the hotel was noisy (I could hear the person staying next to us flush their toilet) and we could hear the rain hitting the wall in the morning.
All the other deficiencies aside, I complained to the young girl at the front desk in the morning about the toilet. Her response was, "Well, how much does a person use the toilet at night anyway?" That's not the point! At $140/night I expect things to be working. She said we should have phoned and had someone come up and look at it. We have children aged 8 years and 4 months. Who'd want people coming up to their room late at night to look at a toilet?
We arrived late in the evening and when we checked in we were told we got one of the last rooms. Her suggestion in the morning was we could have switched rooms. How did we know others were available? And it isn't convenient for us to pack up ourselves and our kids to move to another room in the middle of the night.
We received a 10% discount (and a 10% coupon off our next stay... yeah, right!) but that's far too little compensation for the room we had to endure at the price we paid. 10% is a CAA discount at most hotels! If faced with having to stay in this Travelodge again, I'm certain my family will be more comfortable sleeping in the car.
