| "Not the best...But not the worst either" |

August 2006 - While driving from Kelowna to Calgary, my girlfriends and I decided to stop in Golden for lunch. We wanted to avoid the fast food and chain restaurants on the highway, so we drove into town. Packer's was the first place we saw, and they had a nice patio overlooking the river so we decided to have lunch there. When we sat down, the waitress, who was sitting at a nearby table with what looked like a regular customer, acknowledged us by saying, "Just so you know, I'm not a very good waitress". We just laughed and ordered drinks. After looking at the menu, which offered a wide variety of mostly Greek dishes, we ordered. Despite it being a Greek establishment, the waitress didn't know what Spanokopita was, or where to find it on the menu (I had to point it out to her). Nor did she know whether the Greek salad was large enough for a whole meal or not. We were kind of worried about what we would end up with, but we were pleasantly surprised - the food was great and exactly what we had asked for. The waitress had a bit of trouble calculating the bill and dividing it up, but we got it settled pretty painlessly. The atmosphere is not great - smoky, dingy on the inside and the patio is framed by frankly bizarre murals of Greek gods mixed with beer memorabilia - but the food and the location were great. The service wasn't even that bad - as long as you're good natured and not in a hurry.
