August 2007 - Eating at the Eagle's Eye Restaurant at the Kicking Horse Resort in Golden starts with a gondola ride to the top of the mountain. The restaurant is situated at the top of the ski hill and has panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. I have skiied at Kicking Horse but it is a different experience to go to the top to eat in the restaurant in the summer. It was a clear day and I couldn't get over how all you could see was endless mountains on the other side of the ski hill. It was an amazing spot to eat dinner.
I had the vegetarian pasta dinner which was cheese ravioli with greens and mushrooms. Although the food is expensive, it is very good and it is worth the experience. The lunch menu has more reasonable prices. My dinner partner had the salmon which was served in an orange marmalade sauce. I had a bite of it and it was also very good. We had a table at the window and the one down side was that a bird flew right into the window while we sat there. Although a server went outside immediately to check on it, it died. I guess that is the price you pay for dinning on a mountain top!
One other thing to watch out for is that if it is really windy or there is lightening, the gondola will stop running. We were one of the last ones down before they had to close it because of the wind. Although they gave us blankets for the trip down, it was a chilly and bumpy ride down.
