by Sally (from Fernie, BC) July 2007 - Mountain Shadows campground was not our first choice but it was a very good second and allowed us to stay in a beautiful area for a little longer. It is easy to find because its just off Highway 3 on the left driving west through Sparwood. I would recommend this campground for a longer-term stay than we made. It had hiking trails to nature and historical areas of interest right out of the camp and there were a few groups staying together in one larger site that would work well for family holidays, weekends or reunions. The bathroom and shower facilities were very clean and there was an outdoor shelter area for picnics that also had electric light in it which was a welcome respite for us when it got dark as we could continue to read.
The tent site was reasonably flat and had a table and fire pit with it. It also had a couple of cheeky squirrels who darted in and out of our camp every so often which provided great entertainment for us. The staff were very friendly giving us information about the area when we asked and helping us to pick the best site for our tent. The only draw back at this campground was the noise from the highway, but this didn’t detract too much from a good camping experience, especially if you got a site that was set further away from the road.
