"Gorgeously Green and Slightly Spooky"
by Dana (from Calgary)
October 2007 - Going along with a Lonely Planet recommendation we picked Lynn Canyon Park over the Capilano Suspension Bridge 'tourist trap'. The suspension bridge at Lynn Canyon Park is apparently only slightly shorter than the Capilano one, but I think the Capilano bridge is much higher. The Lynn Canyon bridge was still scary enough for me - moreso for the crowds of people piling on to it, than for the height or swingyness. I didn't see any signs advising on the maximum load of the bridge. However, there are big signs at the start of the track leading to the bridge warning of all the dangers of the swimming holes located in the park, complete with illustrations of types of 'common' accidents. Coupled with plaques dotted around the place, dedicated to people who had died there, a slightly uneasy feeling stayed with me the whole time I was there. It's a very beautiful spot though. An easy 20 minute/half hour circuit trail leads from the other side of the bridge, through the rainforest to the stepped falls below. A wooden bridge leads over the benign but pretty falls, and then the trail continues back up through the forest to the suspension bridge and carpark. Apparently a very popular summer spot, the bridge and trail were reasonably populated for autumn, but I didn't see anyone swimming! We thought it was a lovely place to breathe some fresh air, stretch our legs and to pay a visit to Mother Nature.
