| "disappointing stay in Anmore" |

by marcy (from Orange County) July 2006 - This campground has all the makings for an awesome experience. Unfortunately, current management has failed in almost every way to capitalize on its potential. Located on the periphery of Bunzen Lake, it is surrounded by mountains and trees. It is quiet, and quaint. However, do not be fooled by the pictures in brochures and web postings, the campground IS NOT located on the lake. In fact, Bunzen Lake is located at least a 25 min. hike from the campground (or a 5-7 minute drive). This campground is an older one that has fallen into disrepair in the last 5-10 (or more) years. Very little maintenance is done. This campground has a mix of both permanent dwellers and vacationers. Summer times can be a little crazy as the management rent out any available site and road space for daily parking for weekend visitors to the lake when Bunzen Lake parking becomes full. It makes for an unsecured facility with non-campers wandering around and a dangerous situation for young children who wish to play in front of their parents camp sites. The management is friendly and courteous but we didn't find it to be inauthentic. My family and I stayed for a month during the summertime and were disappointed in the discrepancy between the beauty of the location and disinterest of the managers. There is a pool during the hotter summer months, a games room, and a basket ball court. There is no playground. There are bathroom facilities but be warned, after paying $29.95 per night for a site you will be asked to pay hefty per minute charge for a hot shower! Avoid the rainy season here as campsites get very muddy and poor drainage conditions exist. Talking to the long term campers here revealed that winters can be treacherous too as no plowing, shoveling, or salting is done within the campground. I would certainly recommend the campground to those stopping by for a few days or a week at most. Beyond a short visit, the true nature of this campgrounds personality will take away from the experience.
