July 2007 - I booked a hotel room online, specified that I wanted a non-smoking room for four people and when I arrived at the hotel at 11pm, they had booked us into a smoking room. When I initially phoned to confirm our reservation and to let them know we would be arriving late, the man who answered the phone just said "Hello." I then asked, "Is this the Quality Inn?" He answered "Yes," quite sarcastically. I then asked if it was alright that we were arriving around 11pm, and he again answered me like I was stupid, "Yes." This was the first encounter with horrible customer service.
When we arrived and discovered that we were booked into a smoking room, the man at the front desk assured us that it was me, not him, that had made the mistake. I was positive that I requested a non-smoking room. He told me there was nothing he could do, and did not seem very concerned, and so I told him we would not be staying at the Quality Inn. He did not attempt to rectify the situation, his attitude was 'whatever', and so we had to walk from hotel to hotel at 11pm looking for a place to stay. We finally found a non-smoking room for much cheaper in a hotel nearby. When I returned home, I checked my confirmation page thinking that maybe I was mistaken, and was even more angry at the fact that on the request line it specifically stated I wanted a non-smoking room. Although it was not the end of the world that we had to look for an alternate hotel, I remain disappointed with the Quality Inn and angered over the fact that we were put out of our way by no fault of our own. Ultimately I was quite shocked at the lack of customer care and service offered by the Quality Inn Surrey.
