| "Don't Miss It" |
by Dana (from Calgary) October 2007 - I'm not a huge fan of fish in general, but aquariums fascinate me for the strange and amazing world of creatures on display. The Vancouver Aquarium is really well set-up with tanks and enclosures mimicking natural environments very well. The vast spread of underwater and land-based species from all over the world living at the aquarium is impressive. The themed Amazon section almost transports you there with a boardwalk though live jungle where colourful birds fly over your head and sloths hang high in the trees (unfortunately I could not find one). Other themed areas are also fascinating and informative, the luminescent jellyfish section is beautiful and hypnotic. It's quite interactive too: you can climb under tanks and pop your head into a big bubble for a different view, you can access audio-visual displays or encourage glowing fish to light up at the touch of a button, there are shark, dolphin, otter and beluga whale shows, an anemone-filled touch tank, and the big sea lion even sneezed on me! Loved it. Allow for about 3 hours to see it all.
