July 2007 - The Dutch Wooden Shoe Cafe on Cambie Street is the original test kitchen for the proprietor of the deDutch pancake house chain. It has an atmosphere all its own and a selection of over 70 pannekoeks that are sure to please the most finicky of eaters. I have been here countless times for Sunday kick start and have never been disappointed. I am a sucker for the four-fruit pannekoek, which features grilled apples, bananas, pineapples and strawberries and is naturally topped with whipped cream. The big mocha is also a delicious treat and every time I order one it is served in a different, eclectic (or tacky, depending on your perspective) mug. I still haven't figured out how to join the Polaroid club that is featured along the walls of the restaurant and the service can leave a little to be desired on a busy Sunday but the food makes up for any short comings. A great place to start your day.
