July 2007 - On a recent trip to Vancouver, my partner and I were in need of nourishment and drinks from a day of shopping on Granville Street. We decided to try the Red Door Pan Asian Grill because it looked like it was an eclectic place that would have good food. Our server was nice enough to tell us that it would be a good idea to share a few of the dishes on the menu, rather than order one each. With influences taken from South Asia and Southeast Asia, there was a lot to choose from. We decided on sharing tuna sashimi, Red Door sweet chili chicken and Indonesian chicken satays (chicken skewers). Everything tasted great, and although it was a touch bland for my tastes, I can see that it is kept mild to cater to people in the area not accustomed to the potency of different spices. As for the service, everyone was very polite and courteous. However, our server failed to check up on us when our drinks needed refills. I noticed a number of tables also had empty glasses. On top of this, kitchen staff brought us out our food, but was not dressed in accordance to the feel with the restaurant, which completely destroyed the ambiance and environment. Overall, I think sharing a few dishes at local ethnic vendors and restaurants would have been a better choice.
