| "Great Greek" |
|
|
by Dan (from Calgary) August 2007 - A group and friends and I recently ate at the Maria's Taverna restaurant on Denman Street in downtown Vancouver. It has a wide open front during the summer and we managed to get a table right there. The open air feel of this restaurant really added to the ambience.
After being seated we ordered wine and drinks and were pleasantly surprised and the speed and friendliness of the service. Our waiter was both professional and fun without being too friendly. Our party had chicken souvlaki and lamb dishes. The souvlaki which I had was very delicious and done just right. It did come with a greek salad which was a little bland and the tomatoes weren't quite ripe yet. The rice side that came with it had capers in it which was surprisingly tasty.
My friends ordered the lamb and were quite shocked by the serving size. The piece of lamb was huge! According to them it was also incredibly good. I did try a taste and although I am not a large fan of lamb myself, it had a very tasty spicing.
We also quite enjoyed the people watching during our meal. You never know who you might see and a good time was had by all.
