"Stay for the food, but don't bring your mom."

August 2007 - The Elbow Room Cafe on Davie Street is a downtown Vancouver breakfast restaurant with a twist. The menu itself is quite extensive for a small 10 table cafe. The kitchen is open and the restaurant is clean. The walls are covered with autographed pictures of famous people and celebrities from all sorts of entertainment industries. Why is this place so famous, or infamous? The staff are known for swearing and being quite catty with customers. While I was expecting the worst having already heard this from my friends, in fact it was all done in a very fun way. Our waiter was one of the owners and while he did use a word starting with F quite regularly, it was all done with a huge smile and a wink. We were made to feel at home right away. My friends stuck to the regular breakfasts which they mentioned were all quite good. Myself being a bit more adventurous ordered the 12" savoury pancake. It is indeed a platter filled with a single pancake that is in turn filled with bacon, sausage and cheese. The waiter was astonished when I actually finished it. It was however, that tasty. The waiter will bring you your first cup of coffee, but then rather curtly mentions that if you want refills, they are indeed free but you'll have to get it yourself. When he says it though, he uses a few words that I won't use here. All in all, great food, definitely filling and a rollicking good time for the staff. My huge pancake was only $11 and my friends big breakfasts only about $8.
