"Lunch with a view!"
9.33
by Tanya (from Calgary)
July 2007 - The Old Vines Restaurant is located on the westside of Kelowna at Quails Gate Winery. The view is amazing as it overlooks the vineyard and Okanangan Lake. You can sit outside on the wrap-around deck but when we were there for lunch, they were still doing heavy landscaping so we opted to sit inside away from the noise and dust of the machines. The atmosphere inside or out is great due to the view and the newly renovated restaurant. The staff were friendly and knowlegable about the food and the wine.

We had the 2005 Limited Reserve Chardonnay wine which was light and refreshing for lunch. I had a panini made with bocconcini cheese, red peppers, basil and tapenade with a garden salad. The flavors were fantastic together and it was a great vegetarian option. My lunch companion had the bison burger which she fully enjoyed. She said it was gamey tasting but not too heavy for bison meat. We shared the yam fries she got with her burger and they were fantastic.

Overall the Old Vines Restaurant is somewhere I would highly recommend going for lunch. The atmosphere, food and service was all very good making for a fabulous lunch experience. You can make reservations online which is a good idea if you are visiting in the summer. The Quails Gate tasting room is right beside the restaurant and I would recommend doing the tasting before your meal so you are not too full and can enjoy the wine.

"Fine dining, Kelowna style"

by Corbet (from Vancouver)
May 2007 - While on a recent trip to Kelowna, I had the privilege of dining at the Old Vines Patio at the Quail's Gate Winery. The restaurant is perched above the lake, offering awe-inspiring views of the valley and Kelowna itself. It really must be seen to be believed. The staff was very helpful in helping us select our wine and took the time to explain many of the finer details of our particular selection. As an appetizer I ordered a mixed green salad topped with cranberries, almonds and, naturally, a hard-boiled quail's egg. I don't really get too geeked up about salads but this one would have made any carnivore think about conversion. As a main course I decided on the Arctic free-range caribou, which was served with scalloped potatoes and asparagus. It was my first foray into the exotic world of caribou meat and I must say, I don't think I have ever tasted anything like it. It was cooked to perfection and almost melted when it hit my tongue, similar to a fine piece of sashimi. For dessert, chocolate cheesecake was in order and it followed the exceptional course of the previous dishes and capped an incredible meal. The amount of the bill could have fed a youth soccer team at Dairy Queen 4 times over, but the experience was worth every penny.
