February 2008 - I just finished a meal from Mekong Restaurant in Kelowna and I am soooo impressed with them that I cannot leave town without giving them the credit they deserve.
I arrived from Vancouver a couple days ago and my first feed of Chinese food was at a competing restaurant that had all kinds of positive reviews on other websites. But the food there was so-so at best--it LOOKED like Chinese food but TASTED like western. (obviously watered down to cater to bland Canadian taste buds) And I suspect that all those positive reviews were written either by employees or by people who don't know or appreciate truly Asian food.
Mekong Restaurant had been given some bad reviews, so I stayed away from there the first night. But tonight I decided to give them a chance--and I'm so glad I did! I ordered two dishes for pick-up and discovered that, although I had forgotten to order steamed rice and never paid for it, they had thrown in a small bowl of it to go with my Wor Wonton Soup and Beef in spicy Satay sauce. They had also customized the beef dish to suit my taste--which, after having lived in Korea for 3 years, is partial to spicy food.
The flavour of that sauce was unlike anything I've ever tasted before and it was a 7/10 for hotness (as I ordered), which was perfect! The amount of beef was generous, and the proportion of water chestnuts, mushrooms, peppers, and other veggies was appropriate.
The Wonton Soup tasted authentic--not like a lot of the instant flavoured stuff you get elsewhere. It included generous portions of shredded BBQ pork, baby corns, shrimp, broccoli and dumplings. The only thing negative was the fact that, because I had ordered for pick up, the dumplings were a bit softer than I would normally like. On my next trip to Kelowna, I'll just eat there in the restaurant--it's got a nice atmosphere and seems very friendly.
Anyway, I've written this review because I want others--who don't want the usual fake westernized Chinese food--to know that there is an excellent option available in Kelowna.
I only wish there were some Korean restaurants!

July 2007 - During one of our nights in Kelowna, on our way to go horseback riding, we decided to stop and get some food. We saw a local restaurant, pulled over and got our selves seated. The room had a very authentic Asian feel to it, it was nicely lit, carpet was nice and clean and soft to walk on and the furniture was sturdy and polished. Our server, like all people in Kelowna, was extremely friendly as well as ready for any possible action. Her smile had a welcome greeting to it and did not seem phony at all. We let her know that we were on a time schedule and she did manage to surprise us by having the food put on rush. That was extremely shocking and something that would never happen in Calgary. I was kind of doubting the food would taste good considering how fast it got brought out but it all tasted great, except for the ginger beef. It had a bit of a funny taste to it. But overall for the service, the price and the location, I would definitely go back next time I’m in Kelowna.

March 2006 - We only ate at Mekong once and the restuarant was packed. I couldn't finish my meal as the meat had an old taste to it like it had been left out too long.
