| "What a place!" |
by Jeannine (from Calgary) July 2008 - Located off the highway just south of the town of Osoyoos, we were immediately impressed with the large size and contemporary modern feel of the NkMip ('Inka Meep') winery. Proudly owned by a local native aboriginal tribe, the property also includes newly built condominium projects as well as a brand new hotel and resort, currently under construction. It took us a few minutes to find the entrance to the actual winery, as all the buildings are similar in colour and pathways are not well marked. However, once inside we continued to be impressed by the large and tastefully appointed tasting gallery which includes a large bar and gift shop. Two friendly and attentive staff members offered a selection of free tastings at the bar, which included reasonably priced reds and whites from their standard series ($18-25 per bottle) and the higher quality 'Qwam Qwmt' series ($25+ per bottle-the merlot is outstanding!) Reasonably priced guided tours are another big plus of this winery; something many others in the region don't seem to offer. Lasting about an hour, the tour of the vineyards and modern production facilities was detailed and informative. If touring south Okanogan wine country, NkMip Cellars is simply a must-stop destination!
