June 2008 - Just recently a group of us from Nanaimo drove to Chemanis for lunch. It was a misty day but in spite of the weather we toured the delightful little town with the very famous murals. There are wonderful shops to browse through and nearly all of them have locally made items, everything from ladies wear to candy. The antique shops were fun to look through and the staff was very friendly and helpful. The 14 of us met up at the Harbourside Cafe, near the waterfront. We did have reservations, and that was good, as this is a popular spot for locals as well as tourists. A few of my dining mates ordered the special of the day, chicken pot pies, from our lovely server. Everyone raved about their pies that came with large portions of creamy mashed potatoes and freshly made coleslaw. My dining partner had the Salisbury steak and he said it was delicious and very filling. I ordered their homemade cream of broccoli and cheese soup and it was marvellous. We will be back very soon to this quaint town and lovely cafe.
