| "A Great Food Experience" |
by Brandy (from Dartmouth) February 2008 - Tomato Tomato, the former Old House inn and restaurant, in Courtenay is a premier dining experience. The restaurant has been recently renovated and looks fantastic. The outside retains its old world charm with gray stone and flourishing vines and plant life. The interior is dim but cozy and chic. The lounge area is especially modern and cool. Unfortunately, the evening did not start off well as the bar had run out of Grey Goose vodka and every other type of premium vodka. They did offer a deal on all their regular vodka martinis but I declined. After that initial misstep, the rest of the evening was fantastic. The server was knowledgeable and went out of her way to find answers to all of our detailed questions. I started with the duck tacos. They looked great and they tasted fantastic. Not gamey or tough, the duck seemed to melt in my mouth. As a main, I chose the wild salmon. It was well presented and served on a very thin noodle in a very delicate sauce. Every bite was magnificent! For dessert, I chose the Chocolate Bomb that was a chocolate cake filled with chocolate pudding and topped with white chocolate ice cream. It was good but not as good as it looked. There was a special promotion offered on this particular occasion that brought the original price of the final bill from $57 to $38 before tip. This price was a steal considering the quality of the food. Tomato Tomato is a dining experience not to be passed up in Courtenay.

| "Great Name, Food & Service" |

by Sabrina (from Calgary) July 2007 - This restaurant is set literally in an old house but don't go their thinking that "old" means ugly. The opposite is much more accurate. It was beautiful and well kept and the inside was cozy and inviting. It actually used to be called "The Old House Restaurant" but is now renamed Tomato Tomäto. The gardens around the restaurant are gorgeous and are literally just steps away from the river, so don't forget to bring a camera, there's plenty of opportunities for picture taking. I saw a couple of seals swim by, which was pretty amazing. Their gardens also feature a charming little gazebo. As for the food, everyone dining with me enjoyed their meal and service was great. Some of the food we had included a portabella mushroom burger, big heat chicken burger, prawn and scallop penne and barbecued baby back ribs. It was all excellent. Oh, and the name of the restaurant had us debating which way was the proper way to pronounce it. It's a great name!
