May 2008 - Best crab Cakes to date at the Dingydock restaurant on Protection Island. It’s a short ten minute ferry ride from Nanaimo’s beautiful harbour. What a fantastic way to go for lunch and then to also have delicious food served by very friendly and helpful staff. There were 21 of us on the ferry and we were seated quite quickly on arrival at the Dingydock boat dock. It’s a rustic but fun place to sit to have lunch. The menu is quite varied and we all seemed to order something different from each other. There were nothing but raves about the food choices. My dining mate chose the beef dip that came with big plump fries that were delicious. The beef was tender and very tasty. I opted for the freshly caught crab cakes with a tasty side salad that had a wonderful house vinaigrette dressing. The crab cakes were so perfect that I’m very anxious to make the trip out there again to try some more. They have extended their hours now and they do have evening entertainment. It’s a must go and see place while in Nanaimo
