"Quiet and Beautiful"

by Thomas (from Victoria, BC)
July 2008 - On the long weekend me and a bunch of friends packed up and headed out for a night of camping. We ventured from Victoria out to the end of the West Cost Road and the village of Port Renfrew. Here, in this secluded bay we spent a night and two days at the Pacheedaht Campground. Everyone enjoyed how secluded it felt, though the campground was actually pretty full. I particularly enjoyed how unregulated the grounds were. We were not hassled by any park wardens and we could camp anywhere between our site entrance and the waves lapping on the beach. The facilities are very limited—there are only a couple of outhouses and some enclosed garbage bins—which was fine by me as I prefer more wild camping. The weather was windy, overcast and cold the whole time and though there's nobody to blame for this, I would warn everyone to bring plenty of warm cloths.
