"The Western 66 was a terrific bargain"

June 2008 - When I first saw this motel, right across from the Waddling Dog Inn in Saanichton, B.C., I wondered how long the motel had been there. It looked well-aged with that ‘old motel by the side of the road’ appeal. I think it must be one of the oldest motels in the area (I remember it when I was little by its looming lighthouse statue and blue water fountain – cool). I had just spent 3 somewhat unsettling nights in another hotel and I was ready for a really good sleep. They assured me that I could have an excellent and clean room for less than $70. This sounded good to me so I went for it. And, they were so right!

The room was absolutely spotless! It had a retro feel that was comfortable and lived in, yet offered wireless internet. Honestly, I’m not a clean freak (ask my daughter), but NOT one black moldy looking spot was found in the bathroom, and not a circle from water leakage on the ceiling was in sight. The place smelled clean, the bed was comfortable, the pillows came in a variety of shapes and sizes, and a cozy little table and chairs sat in the sunlight that streamed through the large windows. The air conditioner was quiet, and the TV had a reasonable number of channels...the owners even offered 2 free movies a night – bonus. No coffee in the room but complimentary coffee was available until 12 noon each day in the lobby, and local calls were free. The grounds were nice with places to sit in the shade. Overall, I would absolutely recommend this motel. If you can, get a room like I did on the back side of the motel, away from the highway as it sits smack on the thoroughfare to Victoria.

"Good value"

February 2008 - On a quick visit to the Victoria area, I opted to stay at this motel near the Victoria airport. It is only a short drive down the highway from the airport. Upon check in, I was provided with a small, bachelor-type room with only a shower and no tub. Even though it was a small room, it was comfortable and clean enough and suited me just fine.

My only complaint was that this property has no Internet access available to the visitors. I was hoping for wireless access but they don't provide any Internet service. I had to drive into Sydney to find somewhere to use my laptop.

This motel does not have its own restaurant but you have a choice of a McDonald's across the street or a White Spot located in the same parking lot.

The people at the motel were all friendly and the price was certainly fair for what I got.

"Great Place Near Sidney"

November 2007 - Best price anywhere and very close to Swartz Bay ferries and the airport. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Our room with two queen size beds was comfy and the bathroom was bright and clean. The television had three free movie channels. We also had free morning coffee. They have two bedroom suites available to rent by the week or month and the rates are great. The motel is located right off the highway to Sidney and Swartz Bay but it was very quiet. The grounds are beautiful and well taken care of. We received a coupon for the White Spot Family Restaurant that is located right next door, what a treat that was. There is also a McDonalds right across the road.
This motel is located about twenty minutes north of Victoria and five minutes south of Sidney. We are looking forward to our next trip to Victoria and area and will be checking in with the kind folks at Western 66.
