| "Great Ocean View" |

by Melinda (from Sidney) October 2008 - I went to this pub style restaurant with a friend for lunch. Upon arrival, we found the place was packed and a small line up flowing out the door. It was a sunny Saturday, so that could account for some of the patronage. This restaurant is located along the waterfront at the end of Beacon next to the Port of Sidney. Living only about a km away, we decided to walk to this restaurant. There is however, a large free parking lot right in front making parking easy and convenient. The restaurant had 3 definate sections. A pub on one side of the building with a fireplace at one end. A glassed in outside patio section which separated the restaurant side from the pub side. Families can dine on the restaurant side. Lots of windows allow a ocean view from all angles. I found the lighting and ambience was warmer in the pub section. We sat on the restaurant side due to it being the only table open.
To start off while deciding on the menu, we ordered the drink special which was a bucket of 5 Coronas for $23.75 to celebrate an upcoming Mexico trip. The menu was the same in both areas. The featured specials of the day ranged from French Onion Soup with Caeser salad for $12.50. Cajun chicken Caeser salad with foccacia $14. Cajun Chicken Wrap with soup, salad or fries for $12.50. Shellfish seafood stew in a marinara sauce $18. The main menu was pretty much the standard pub fare, appetizers, burgers, pasta, salads, fish & chips, steaks. Most items ranged in price from $10 - $18.
My friend & I decided to split the Calamari $11.50 and the Oriental Chicken Salad $14.50. The calamari was lightly battered and was cooked just right. The salad came with a large piece of focaccia bread. The salad portion was very generous and topped with a good amount of chicken. I'm glad we decided to share. It was nicely presented and very tasty with lots of different vegetables and crispy wonton noodles. The waitress was very pleasant, regardless of being extremely busy, she checked on us regularly to see if there was anything we needed, but not intrusive.
I only have one negative comment about the place. For the size of the restaurant and the amount of customers, I found the washrooms small and dark. I had a hard time staying out of the way of the doors while waiting in line for one of the two stalls and only one sink.
We did enjoy our lunch and would try it again.

| "Pub at the Marina" |

by deb (from victoria) August 2008 - Rumrunner's Pub is located at the end of the main street in Sidney at the marina. Children are permitted in the restaurant section of the pub around the back of the building. We sat outside overlooking the ocean. They have plastic patio furniture that provides seating for four at each table. There were five of us so we were a little crowded but it was okay. The waitress was responsive and took our order as soon as we were ready. We didn't have to wait long for our food to come up. The kids were happy with their food ordered off the children's menu. The portions were amble for them. My daughter and I had chicken burgers. They were very dry and didn't have much flavour but it was okay. My mother had a crab and shrimp wrap. She said it was okay but didn't have much flavour. They don't offer refills on the drinks so we had to pay for additional glass of soda for the kids. I would say that I would go back to this place again but would likely order fish and chip as they looked really good. The setting however was great and we enjoyed watching the boats coming in and out of the harbour.
