December 2007 - First time trying SHELTER and just really loved it. Excellent food, prices reasonable, and very good service. CHECK IT OUT!!! We went back again after trying it one night of the vacation. YUM!!

July 2007 - The Shelter Restaurant just reopened this summer after a major remodeling. It is very modern incorporating a mix of wood, glass and iron in its decor. Parking is a little scarce as this place is very busy but there is some parking along the streets. And expect to wait a bit to get a table. There is seating on the outside deck which is heated with propane heaters. But it isn't covered so not a great place to be sitting when the rain starts. Inside there is restaurant seating upstairs and lounge seating downstairs. The full menu is offered regardless of where you sit so if the restaurant is full, eating in the lounge is an option. The service was top-notch - fast and friendly and the serving staff knew the menu. The food is good but the prices were a little higher than we expected. This is a difficult place to take children because of the potential long waits for a table but they do offer a variety of food that would appeal to kids, such as pizza and yam fries. I recommend starting with an order of yam fries - we all agreed they were the best we have ever had! The wine list was extensive and they have a good selection of alcoholic beverage choices including Bellinis. This is a trendy and popular restaurant, not a place to go if you want a quiet dinner. But it is fun and the food was good. We would definitely go there again but would plan it for an evening when we weren't in a hurry.
