July 2008 - On a recent drive across Vancouver Island to the town of Ucluelet, we decided to stop for a late lunch. There are a few good looking places to eat but it was too late for lunch and too early for supper. We noticed a large ship docked at the harbour advertising a dining room. The ship was built in 1932 and is 228feet long. It was a hydrographic survey ship until 1979. It has a lot of history.We started out on the deck sitting but it became quite windy so we opted to go indoors to their very quaint pub. The dining room itself was to open in an hour. We were very pleased with our choice to sit in the pub, as the staff was exceptionally friendly and very helpful. They explained all about the ship and offered us a tour of the rooms that are available for overnight stays. We ordered the beer battered fish and chips and asked for it to be extra crispy. The halibut pieces were huge and were done to perfection. The fries were fresh and tasty. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience of eating on board ship and because of the delicious food and our very friendly server; we will be back again soon.
