December 2007 - The Fireside Grill is located in an old tudor-style building in the Royal Oak area of Victoria. The building is very interesting from the outside with trellis' along the pathways with vines entwined and outdoor patio with a large fireplace. I suspect sitting outdoors in the summer is popular as the setting was quite romantic. Inside was a little disappointing. The restaurant is located in one very large room full of tables. There was little separating one table from another so there wasn't much privacy. The ceiling was high and vaulted so the room was quite noisy. We were shown to our seat near the the blazing fireplace and were quickly warmed up. The service was impeccable. Our waiter was very familiar with the menu and was able to answer all of our questions. The menu selection is not huge but varied. I order crab and shrimp cakes. They were served with a nice salad, house dressing and a special chipolte majo sauce. My friend ordered one of the evening specials, tender carpaccio served with a salad. We shared an order of flatbread. Her serving was very small but she enjoyed it. Prices were a little more than we had expected. I would recommend going there but I do not think it would be a place that I would frequent.
