"More Baan For Your Buck"

April 2008 - While cruising Oak Bay, looking for some dinner, me and my family stumbled upon this tiny restaurant at the intersection of Foul Bay, Fort and Cadboro Bay. Its a pretty lousy location that's hard to see and even harder to park in but its also hardly worth complaining about.
The atmosphere is pretty trendy, but not insultingly so. There is plenty of art on the walls and a nice urban look to the place.
The service was quick and friendly and the food was more than worth its low price. I ordered a vegetarian red curry dish, my girlfriend ordered a chicken green curry and my paps ordered some sort of chicken flash fried noodle dish (please excuse my omitance of the proper Thai names, I was born and raised in Canada). All three of our meals came very quickly, tasted great and cost less than $14.

"My First Thai Experience"

February 2008 - I am not usually very adventurous with my dining choices but my friend assured me that I would like this place. I was a little worried when I looked over the lunch menu - hot, not so hot and mild, were the seasoning choices! This is a very small restaurant with tables set up with two rows along the walls and one in the center of the room. This is not a place to go for private chit-chat. The lunch menu had nine or so dishes to select from. The last three were combo plates with egg rolls, soup and a entree selection and not being familiar with Thai food, I went for the combo. I was a little concerned when the waitress told me that I couldn't get my lunch mildly spiced because it only came in one intensity, but she assured me that it wasn't fiery hot. And she was right. I order a spicy curry vegetable dish served with rice. It was hot but not so bad that it ruined the meal for me. My friend had a chicken dish served with a coconut milk based sauce with cashews served with rice. We were both impressed with our meals and the price. The portions were generous. The only criticism I would make is that the place is very popular but it is small and for the entire time we were there, there was a line-up of people waiting to be seated. This made me feel a bit rushed so we didn't sit and chat after we ate. I wouldn't recommend going right at noon, maybe a little earlier or a little later to miss the lunch rush, but I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

"Amazing food, great value for your dollar lunch specials."

April 2007 - The food at Baan Thai lives up to its popularity. You will probably have a wait for lunch on any given day, as the restaurant is small, but the food is worth the wait. The service is very quick and the lunch specials will not disappoint. For under 10$ they offer 4 different combination lunches which come with a bowl of soup and 2 spring rolls. The lunch combos also contain traditional Thai dishes such as curries and pad thai, which is one of the best I have every had. There are also other menu items available for lunch as well, ranging from 9-12$.

Although the restaurant is small it is very bright and clean. I would definitely recommend Baan Thai for a weekday lunch. I would suggest arriving before 12 as the place does become quite busy and you might have a bit of a wait getting a table.
