| "Just a Good Experience" |

by Sara (from Victoria, BC) June 2008 - A colleague of mine first took me to Saigon Night. He loves the place and went on about it on our way there. I had pretty high expectations by the time we arrived. I had a very common dish, which consisted of rice noodles, chopped up pork and a spring roll. It all tasted good but nothing out of the ordinary. I've tried a few Vietnamese restaurants in town and have had the same dish and it tasted very similarly.
On another occasion I tried the deep-fried tofu with the ginger sauce and I really enjoyed that. I would go back just for the tofu and I'm not even a huge tofu lover! The restaurant is very clean and the service is extremely prompt. If I was on the hunt for Vietnamese food, I may or may not go back depending on the hours, as the hours are a bit strange! Overall, a good experience just not outstanding.

| "Maybe the reviews are wrong?" |

by Tiemen (from Victoria, BC) May 2008 - Still in search for the best Vietnamese restaurant in Victoria, we hit up Saigon night this weekend for an early supper. I had read several reviews raving about Saigon night, with one man claiming it was his favorite restaurant IN THE WORLD. With an endorsement like that, it must be good…right? Uh…yeah, it’s OK. The food tasted decent. I’d say pretty standard for Vietnamese restaurants in Western Canada…definitely nothing to get too exited about. Three of us all ordered the #18, a vermicelli noodle bowl with a couple kinds of pork and spring rolls. This is the standard dish I order at all Vietnamese restaurants the first time I try them. Their version was decent tasting, but at $11.50 it was priced $2 or more higher than I can get it for at other restaurants. Now, I don’t mind spending a couple bucks more for something if it’s worth a couple more…but this just wasn’t. Personally, I don’t see the hype. Supposedly their tofu in ginger sauce is to die for, but I don’t think I’ll be back to try it.
Oh yeah...the service was crazy. The owner tried to refill our tea pot 5 times! He was coming over every two minutes to see how we were doing. Some people may like the attention, but I don't. Sometimes I like to be left alone to eat.
