by Deb (from Victoria) August 2008 - We were checking out the tourist attractions in downtown Victoria and needed a place for lunch. We had one child and tweenie and a teenager with us so the choices of where to go were limited based on what they would eat. The menu was extensive and offered breakfast all day so I figured we had all the tastes covered. The restaurant wasn't very big but it was busy. We were seated in a booth at the back of the restaurant. I asked for coloring stuff for the kids but the waitress forgot. I went to the front to get it myself. They had crayons but no pictures, instead they had lined foolscape for the kids to draw on. We placed our order almost as soon as we sat down but had to wait a little bit for the order to come. My young niece ordered pancakes from the children's menu. The waitress didn't explain until we ordered more pancakes that it was cheaper to order by the pancake than ordering the children's menu item. We asked for refills on the drinks but they never came. The toast was barely toasted and the eggs on my daughter's eggs benefict were over cooked. My Reuben Sandwich was soggy and did not have much corned beef on it. My mother ordered french toast. She said it was good but she never did get her coffee refilled. The waitress appeared to have forgot about us and when it was time for us to leave I had to find someone to get the bill.

by Tara (from Victoria) July 2007 - Wow, what a busy place this is! We needed to quickly grab breakfast before dropping some family members off at the airport and Smitty’s was close to their downtown hotel. There was a line-up to get in and what we were told would be a 15 minute wait. Turned out they got us a table in less than 5 minutes, which was great. Our server was very attentive, even though she was very busy and she came back many times to refill the coffee cups. I had the Cowpoke Breakfast which came with an egg, bacon, hashbrowns and toast. Everything tasted great except for the bacon - it was rubbery and didn’t have a good bacon flavour. The multi-grain toast was delicious though. My mother-in-law had the smoked salmon eggs benedict and she thought it was fantastic. Overall this was a good breakfast experience. Smitty’s is a standard family restaurant with good service, average food and average prices. I would recommend it and judging from the line-up to get in, it's a very popular place, but I think next time I’m going to try something different.
