June 2007 - Lady Marmalade is one of several excellent diners participating in a Victoria institution: the weekend breakfast. I didn't know how serious my friend was about the line-ups for brunch on a Sunday morning until we gave up trying to go to the closest diner we could find: the line-up was simply too long. Lady Marmalade's line-up was about a ten minute wait, until we were seated in its fun and dynamic atmosphere. Old linoleum flower prints cover the tables and chairs - there's a real 1950's domestic kitchen table feel. I ordered a french toast croque-monsieur: french toast with a poached egg and ham in the middle of each slice... delicious and filling! Each brunch option here has a similar qualty of being both a twist on an original dish (in this case a hybrid between french toast and croque monsieur) and usually a more decadent version. You get the feeling the waitresses here are very happy to be employed by this place - they chat with each other and customers joyfully - the clientele by and large seem to be from the community, which tells me the place looks like what it says it is: a delightful morning experience buzzing with good food and personality.
