"Quaint but Classy"

April 2009 - Sips Artisan Bistro is located in James Bay and very new to Victoria. The small setting is warm with all the colors and lights but not intimate as the tables are close with no booths. It was about 9pm and the 2 of us were looking to grab a small meal somewhere. We were greeted by wonderful staff (the bartender and waiter) and they were attentive and keen to answer our questions about the menu.
The menu offers a small variety of options and we ordered the tuna sandwich and the salmon sandwich. They came in the form of a Panini, grilled with a bit of lettuce, plain fish, and a cream cheese and goat cheese mix, all between 2 large pieces of white baguette bread and more cheese, possibly mozzarella on top. On the side were 3 chips and a slice of peach. Because of the time of night and we were looking for something small, this was perfect but it certainly wouldn’t be enough as a meal. I know one meal was $7 and you could get the same thing for $10, probably a bigger dish. We tried both sandwiches and found them to be fairly plain in flavor but I’m aware that some prefer this so it just comes down to preferences. We didn’t order any drinks and given the length of the drink menu and the name of the restaurant, that is probably where the selection and flavor is great.
I would go back for drinks as the location is central and the staff is very friendly! I heard from a friend that a few folks went there for drinks and had a lovely time. They also mentioned how friendly the staff is and the great time they had with them. It appears Sips Artisan Bistro is affiliated with Spinnakers Gastro Brewpub as well. If you’re a big fan of Spinnakers, you will probably really enjoy Sips!
