"Won't be back"
4.50
by Michael (from Sooke)
January 2008 - We visited Knockanback Grill for the first time on 2 Jan 08, arriving at 8:05 PM. It was fairly busy, about 3/4 full and appeared to have 3 female staff, 2 male staff and one male bartender working. We stood inside at the entrance for about 3-minutes waiting to be seated. Not seeing a sign, or being acknowledged we grabbed a couple of menu's and figured we'd wonder around for a table for 2. Once we found a seat we looked over the menu's for approx 7-8 mins and had to get up for a drink menu, as we still hadn't been served. Another 4-5 minutes passed and we were just about to leave when a female busser began cleaning the table beside us and asked if we'd been looked after yet. She took our drink order and said (name) would be right with us. Another 3-4 minutes pass and our apparent server brought us our drinks. She asked if we knew what we'd like and we placed our order. Surprisingly it arrived in 4-5 minutes. Disappointingly, it was sub par. I asked about the Ranch dip and carrot and celery sticks that was supposed to come with my chicken wings, and she pleasantly told me that it was wing night and they are 25 cents each, but don't come with dip etc. Really would have been nice to know this in advance as I would have ordered more. But, then again maybe not, as they were hard to actually call chicken wings. The Tequila Prawns were basically 4 large shrimp in a sauce with a slice of thin barely toasted bread. We had to flag our server down for another drink after waiting 5-7 minutes empty. We asked for our bill and waited another 6-7 min before I went to the til to pay. Left at 9:27 PM, nearly 1.5 hours for a couple drinks & appy's. Won't be back.

"Great Pub Food for the Family"

by deb (from victoria)
August 2007 - The Knockanback Grill is a little hard to find (the corner of Interurban and Wilkinson Road) but worth the effort. It is a pub-style restaurant so kids are welcome and there are big booths for large groups. This is set up like a sports bar with a couch in front of a big screen TV and they do show the pay channel sports, but it is also a great place to go for lunch or dinner - although if you want to hear yourself talking, pick a night when there are no fights scheduled. The menu is huge as are the portions. It is one of the few places where I will order a beef burger - with beer cheese and bacon. The kids like the natchos and the quesadillas. They have a large selection of beers including local breweries so it is a good place to go to try something new. It is a little dark inside (sports bar setting) but comfortable. The staff are also friendly and the service is usually good.
