| "Great Breakfast!" |

by Tiemen (from Victoria, BC) June 2008 - Some friends of mine were in town for the weekend, and were hungry for breakfast. Seeing as how my wife is NOT a breakfast person, I thought this was the perfect opportunity to check out John’s Place and their cream cheese syrup that I’d heard so much about. The line was long, as it is with most popular breakfast joints in Victoria on the weekend, but we hunkered in for the long haul. It was worth the wait, as we were given coffee and fresh baked banana bread to keep our appetites at bay while we waited in line. We were seated about 20 minutes later (I told you the line was long), and we ordered right away. I went for the 222 Headache, a near perfect breakfast consisting of 2 pancakes (or a Belgian waffle if you are so inclined)with 2 eggs any style and your choice of two slices of grilled bacon or two link sausages or grilled Virginian ham. I substituted chorizo sausage for my meat, and made sure I was getting the cream cheese syrup for those pancakes, and we were good to go. With the $1.75 extra for the chorizo substitution, my total came to $12 with coffee…which I admit is a little pricey for breakfast…but I had no problem paying it for what I got at John’s Place. Seriously, great breakfast…nothing too fancy, but the cream cheese syrup (can’t mention this enough) and chorizo really put ’er over the top. Besides being really busy, the restaurant itself is comfortable and fun, with a retro diner feel and old movie/concert posters, etc as decoration. Definitely a place to hit for breakfast in Victoria…they have an extensive menu, but I honestly see myself just ordering the same thing again. I’ll be back for sure.

| "Good ol'fashioned food" |

by Kelsey (from Calgary) July 2007 - Craving a hearty breakfast we hunted up and down the streets of downtown Victoria. All we could seem to find were hippy and healthy restaurants...but we wanted a serious breakfast not granola! Lo and behold we finally stumbled across John's Place and after stepping inside the crammed and busy entrance we figured this was the place to be. With walls covered in photographs, booths full of hungry patrons and the voices of regulars we happily ordered our meals. Our waitress was great, she had obviously been working there a long time and joked easily with us and made sure we had everything we needed. The meals arrived quickly and although there was one mix up it was quickly remedied. The food was filling and tasty. We would definitely head back for another meal the next time we are in Victoria.
