| "Will definitely be back!" |

by Mike (from Calgary) November 2007 - It was a Sunday evening and my wife and I were craving some fish and chips. We tried a few locations but luckily they were all closed. We drove to this pub and were very happy we did. Our first indication that we would enjoy our meal was the lack of open table space - the pub was full of local people of all ages enjoying their meals. We did manage to find a table by the window. The decor is typical pub style but they have attempted to make it more upscale by adding candlelight and playing jazz music. Somehow they have pulled this off without being cheesy. There is a steep stairway to climb but that didn't seem to deter anyone from visiting.
We ordered two halibut and chips except my wife replaced the chips with a garden salad. We both agreed that was the best fish we had eaten in a long time. Very fresh, tasty and battered perfectly. The chips were great and my wife enjoyed her salad. Although she was sad to discover that the Sunday special was a beautiful roast beef dinner with yorkshire pudding (her favorite). Our server gladly solved this problem by allowing her to take home a side order of yorkshire pudding with gravy for only a couple dollars extra!
We enjoyed our food so much that we will definitely be back next time we are in Victoria.

by Deb (from Victoria) November 2007 - This pub is located in Cadboro Bay, down the hill from the University of Victoria. It is a popular place for both students and staff from UVic as it is within easy walking distance - although the walk back is very steep. The pub is in a little mall near the beach but you can't see the ocean from the pub unless you are fortunate enough to get an outside seat and even then you will only get glimpses of the ocean. This is a very small pub around the back and upstairs of the mall - there's maybe 15 tables at the most. The food is typical pub food and good as pub food usually is. I had a grilled salmon salad and my friend had a chicken wrap with soup. The grilled salmon was very nice and set in mixed greens. I enjoyed it. My friends said the wrap was very good, lots of galic and a little messy. There is no privacy here as the tables are all located close together but we were able to talk and hear each other. I would go back, but probably would try their hamburger - it looked really good.
