| "Best fast food sandwich I've ever had?" |
by Tiemen (from Victoria, BC) January 2008 - I was a little skeptical when I heard about Sabri Indian restaurants, fast food outlet, but I’d wanted to try it, regardless, ever since I’d heard of it. We hit the original Naanwich location (just a couple doors down from Sabri by Tillicum mall) for a late lunch on a Saturday afternoon, and took our place in line to wait to order. We took our cue from the three people in line in front of us, and ordered the original Naanwich, with butter chicken at $5.49 a pop. My wife and I were offered 4 choices in hottness, rating from mild to very hot, I chose hot, while my wife chose medium to stay on the safe side. Now, a Naanwich is your choice of meat (butter chicken, lamb stew, beef and ginger, and about 20 other selections including a couple veggie choices), on freshly baked Naan bread, with your choice of toppings and sauces. The set-up is a lot like a Subway, but with a far more interesting product. Anyway, while our butter chicken was being cooked to order, we chose our toppings from the selection of fresh vegetables. I chose pretty much everything…red and green peppers, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, etc…with a mango chutny for sauce. The hot butter chicken was then dumped on top, and everything was wrapped up like a donair. I was hungry and my mouth was already watering from the mix of aromas in the restaurant, so I got to work on the sizeable sandwich. From the first bite I was really impressed. The butter chicken was quite spicy ( I had ordered it hot), and that mixed really well with the sweetness of the mango chutney . The vegetables and cheese were fresh and tasty, as was the Naan. Both my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our sanwiches, as did the other customers in the restaurant. One of the people who had ordered ahead of us even ordered a second Naanwich to take home for later, because he had enjoyed his so much. Honestly, my Naanwich was probably the best fast food sandwich I’ve ever tasted. They boast fresh, unprocessed, ingredients and a delicious sandwich, and they really deliver. Naanwich offers a terrific alternative to bland burgers and boring subs and wraps, and Naanwich offers a lot more than just their sandwiches. They’ve got a variety of soups, and 8 kinds of Naan bread as well as Mango and Sweet Lasi’s and Hot or Cold Chai tea. Hit up the original location, or the new downtown location on Douglas. Naanwich offers a great, new product at a decent price…it’s a must try if you’re looking for something fast and delicious. Hey…if you like it enough, you can even buy a franchise!

| "Best Fast Food Ever!" |

by Tara (from Victoria, BC) January 2008 - This is the best thing I’ve tried in a while! It’s called a naanwich and it’s pretty much Indian fast food, but made with all natural and fresh ingredients. They have a few different kinds but I tried the butter chicken naanwich. It was delicious! They prepare the chicken on the grill and ask how spicy you want it (mild, medium, hot and extra hot) and while that’s cooking you select the toppings you want. They have many choices such as tomatoes, cucumbers, lettuce, cabbage, pickles, red and green peppers, hot peppers and cheese. I wanted to keep it simple so I chose cucumbers, cabbage and red peppers. Then they put the toppings on a piece of naan bread and give you a choice of sauce. I tried the mango chutney sauce which was delicious! Once the chicken has finished cooking they place it on top of the sauce and veggies and wrap it up and viola! You have yourself a naanwich. It’s healthy, filling and cheap at just over $5. I would highly recommend this place and plan to go back often. I think they have two locations in Victoria, one downtown on Douglas and one on Tillicum Road. We tried the one on Tillicum Road. They have a lot of different naanwiches to choose from, everything from chicken, lamb, beef, potato and chickpea. They also have lasi’s, which I am definitely trying next time I go, which I can guarantee will be very soon!
