May 2008 - The Frobisher Inn sits on top of Astro Hill overlooking Frobisher Bay. The hotel is very regal looking inside. As you walk in, the front desk is right in the middle of the hall. It looks very grand, with neutral colors and river rock on the front of the desk. The staff were very nice as well. The elevator was a bit slow and the luggage trolley was wobbly. The room was nice, but the kitchenette was small and the bathroom was outdated. The paint was peeling off the ceiling near the windows. The hotel was quite secure because the door to the rooms was locked and only accessible by the room key. The hotel has a movie theater, a drug store, dinning room, café, bar and a convenience store in it and is very central to everything Iqaluit has to offer. The bed was not the most comfortable, but the rooms were clean. The cleaning staff were very nice and accommodating. The only complaint I had about the hotel was the fact that there are no guests allowed in past 11pm. This is not posted anywhere in sight and is not mentioned on their website or on the check in sheets or by any of the staff. The night auditor whom I spoke with about this rule was quite rude and actually told me this information was on the check in sheet I signed. I asked to see it and when it was not written on the sheet, he was even ruder to me. Besides this ‘run-in’, everyone else was quite pleasant. The price was alright at $240 per night. Telephone calls in Iqaluit cost $1 each local and there is also a long distance rate. I will check out other hotels in Iqaluit before staying at the Frobisher Inn again.
