| "A 1950's diner with a twist" |
by Jessica (from Toronto) June 2007 - A 1950’S diner with a twist: this diner specializes in healthy Californian-Mexican fare. Responding to Toronto’s eclectic Queen Street West crowd, Sadie’s diner offers both chili con corne burritos and power smoothies with spirulina and wheat grass options. I took advantage of the diversity – ordering a fresh squeezed grapefruit juice and burrito – both of which delivered in taste and size. The burrito ended up being grilled panini style – yummy! The diner has several rooms, the back two are windowless and, in my opinion, not worth the trip – though providing acceptable ambiance for larger groups on a rainy day. The narrow front room, on the other hand, features big open windows, red leather covered sitting booths, an open kitchen, and over the counter service. Hip scene-sters and local folk alike can drop by for take-out food and a conversation with the cook and wait-staff. A relaxed drop-in restaurant, perfect for meeting up with a friend for brunch or lunch, the menu caters to a modern, health-conscious palette – including vegan and vegetarian options. Just off of Queen Street West, it’s a way to get away from the buzz of this trendy area, while still being seconds away from an alternative fashionable district.
