"Skinny Pasta at Euro Bistro"
6.33
by Jessica (from Toronto)
June 2007 - Vivetha’s is a typically European bistro, very popular in Toronto’s East End Beaches neighborhood. Particularly crowded during weekend brunches and weekend/ weekday dinners, Vivetha’s secret may lie in its menu: a plethora of egg-based breakfast options including inspired eggs benedict and specialty omelettes, as well as multiple evening seafood options, makes the Bistro a success. What would otherwise be considered conventional European Bistro food is not so easily found in a homogenously “North American” area of Toronto. I had the one obviously non-European entrée on the menu. The “Indian King,” featuring rice pasta and gluten-free pasta options (as do all pasta entrees served at Vivetha) comes with a mediocre Indian cream curry sauce and an assortment of vegetables, as well as chicken and shrimp options for a few extra dollars. I was surprisingly not full at the end of the entrée – a surprise considering I usually have to decide between appetizers and a main entrée given the portions of some restaurants. My dining companions had the more conventional seafood options and basked in the variety and skill with which the seafood was seasoned. We finished off the evening with key lime pies and a slice of bourbon chocolate cheesecake: decent yet uninventive. If you’re looking for something that will provide the known and reliable – this place is for you. The service is personable and neighborly – a necessity for a community known for residents who move in and stay long term.
