June 2007 - Quigley’s is a bar/restaurant with a huge multi-tiered street-side patio, with nothing separating it from the sidewalk other than some rope and pegs. The ambience is lively and crowded in the summer (I wouldn't want to eat inside in the winter - unless you like pubs), with musical performances heard either from across the street at O’Malley’s pub, or coming from Quigley’s own roster of local musicians. Its pub feel makes efforts at the worldly and cosmopolitan – with such things as Chicken Mardi Gras featured on the menu. I ordered it, the raspberry coulis beckoning me to it, and it delivered. The portion sizes at this restaurant are huge – one of my dining companions ordered some mussels as an appetizer which ended up being enough for the whole table, but this is not a deterrent from a place that happily wraps up your leftovers to take home as tomorrow’s lunch. Their sangria is decent, an effort is made to steer away from those syrupy disasters of less reputable bars, however, nothing to write home about if you’re a sangria purist (if there’s such a thing). Quite a nice experience if you don’t mind the hussle and bussle of a content crowd. The waiter was a little too superficial and “pleasant” for my liking – the kind I got the feeling complains about his job behind closed doors, and one of our entrees was forgotten about – though quickly delivered with overly sincere (some would say insincere) apologies.
