| "Vegan treasure" |
|
|
by Jessica (from Toronto) June 2007 - Pulp Kitchen is a vegan restaurant located in that stretch of Queen Street formerly home to seedy-run down storefronts - which is becoming a burgeoning neighborhood of low-key specialty treasures. Pulp Kitchen is one of these. With vegetarian restaurant awards and autographed celebrity portraits adorning its walls (with the likes of Natalie Portman), Pulp Kitchen is a cute little spot – open for breakfast and lunch only. Casual is the standard at this health-conscious restaurant, which offers an entire menu dedicated solely to vegetable and fruit smoothies, where the Californian-minded can add anything from spirulina (a fortified “greens” powder) to flax oil to boost their power drinks. In terms of solid foods, my dining companion had the special of the day - a vegan BLT – the bacon substituted by a soy-based imitation. She loved it. While the portion sizes are modest, the produce quality and flavouring is superb. I had the “shrooms burger,” a tasty burger made up of portebello mushrooms, tomatoes, and caramelized onions – also quite delicious. All mains come with a fresh mixed green salad, yummy vinegrette, and home fries. Worth the trip for sure.
