"Charming Lebanese Family Restaurant"
7.33
by Jessica (from Toronto)
August 2007 - I lived in Montreal for five years, where cheap Shish Taouk take-out places were everywhere and, while good, were not the kind of place where you would go for a sit down meal. Beirut Palace is different. It's entrance way is quite classy, and it has a large side patio to enjoy in the summer months. The woman serving us was obviously invested in providing good service and proud of the food she was serving. The alcohol listings are fun with conventional cocktails, wines, beers, and spirits. My friend and I both had white wine spritzers which were great. I ordered the falafel meal for $8, and my friend ordered the shish taouk meal for $12. She wanted to know what shish taouk was, and, upon asking the waitress what it was, was given the response: "it's chicken with garlic sauce, get it, you'll like it." We both were given starter salads comprised of iceberg lettuce, oil and vinegar. Needless to say, not great. Our main meals were both large beds of tumeric coloured rice, mine with four lightly fried falafel balls and a side of tahini dipping sauce, my friend's with large pieces of grilled chicken and a dairy-garlic dipping sauce. It didn't look like enough, but by the end of the meal we were both stuffed. It was probably because it was alot of protein without much else. On retrospect, I definitely would have ordered a meal with tabouli or greek salad because I saw these being delivered to other tables and they looked both more substantial and better than our iceberg piles. Unfortunately, half way through our meal a truck putting up signage for the restaurant pulled up right beside where we were eating and let off chemical fumes for a while before we took the initiative and changed tables. This is one of those circumstantial things that happen sometimes though, and really can't be helped by the restaurant itself.
