by Jessica (from Ottawa) December 2007 - My friend took me to this place in the midst of pre-Christmas busy-ness in downtown Toronto, just North-East of the crowded Eaton Centre. Recently renovated, the Salad King is a popular Thai restaurant for the downtown urbanites of Toronto - and rightly so. Their food deserves the attention - especially for the price.
Salad King is a brightly lit, white walled room, whose storefront windows reach from floor to ceiling. The only thing I don't like about this place is the "trough-style" seating arrangement throughout the bulk of the restaurant - diners share a series of long metallic tables where they're given a foot of non-separated table space between them and their unknown neighbor. A Salad King hostess tried to seat my friend and I at such a trough space, and we discreetly moved to high bar chairs by the bar table window seating. I ordered the "Emerald Green Curry," a vegetable green curry dish for $6.95 that comes with white rice included. My friend had a similar dish except hers came with chicken for $8.95. We both thoroughly enjoyed our bowls of what were largely coconut milk, and we both also thoroughly enjoyed the price. Our waitress was fast and kind, and we were happy to leave her a great tip after such a reasonably priced and enjoyable meal. We eventually felt we should leave as the increasingly long line-up at the door extended out into the cool December evening.
