by Ruth (from Oshawa) August 2007 - On the previous review from Martin we decided to visit Bancroft Campground. When we got there we asked if we could look the park over before we decided to stay. The lots were not groomed but a good size. We didn't check out the washrooms but it appeared there were two in the store. If there were others we didn't see them. The pool was green, the owner said she had to clean it, that it was full of pollen. This was about 4 p.m. If you wanted to swim you could go about 10 minutes away. The recreation facilities were in the store, that was quite a mess and appeared as if it wasn't ready for use. On returning to the store the owner took a phone call discussing how she had sold the last litter of kittens to previous campers that a.m. and she talked & talked & talked. So much for customer service. Finally, I interrupted her to ask her the rate to camp for a night. It was $ 19.00. Cheap, and that's exactly what you get . A cheap place to stay a night but for a vacation, never. The Ont. Camping Assoc. rates campgrounds from 1-5. This is definetly a one. Where the previous camper rated this a 8 - 10 I will never know, unless things have changed drastically since last year. I wouldn't recommend anyone camp there. We have camped for over 30 yrs. and this one is one of the worst we have ever seen and also for service. R.Martin (no relation to the Martin who wrote the previous review).

In response to this review, I have a couple of things to say. The washrooms are accessible from 2 locations, outside and inside the store, there is only one door for each washroom in the store but there are 6 toilets, 3 shows in the women's, and 4 toilets and 3 urinals, 3 showers in the men's. The recreation room is used on a regular basis by our customers and as we were installing a new window in the front of the store, it did have some stuff off to the side for a couple of days. The sites are raked in the spring, mowed regularly and all litter removed The phone call did not last very long and it was a customer that I was talking to, that was reserving again for the following week that happened co-incidentally to want to take a kitten from us on their next visit. The pool has been a pain this year as the pollen count in this area is high and it ends up in the pool, making it cloudy and due to safety regulations, if you cannot see the bottom of the pool it cannot be opened..to remove pollen the pool must be treated and then 12 hours later vacuum and as the filter cannot handle pollen due to the small size of pollen it must be vacuum to the ground and then the missing water refilled. There is not much I can do to prevent this. I am sorry that this customer was not satsified with their visit, but that is not the norm here, we have been complimented numerous occassions on the beauty of our site, and the size of the lots. And we are always looking for more ways to enhance the park to ensure it exceeds our customers expectations.

by M (from Cambridge Ontario) July 2006 - This site is very private and very scenic. Lots of room for a good hike or a cool dip in the pool. The fishing is great wether from the shore or in a boat. Worth spending a few days or a week or parking your trailer year round. The village is close if you need supplies.
thanks,
Martin
