June 2008 - On the site in Kanata Centrum once occupied by Denny’s restaurant, we found a brand new Montana’s Cookhouse. The restaurant still has that fresh woody smell.
For a starter, we shared the famous four cheese spinach dip. The dip bowl appeared to have less dip than I remember but the bowl did match the promotional image. However, we did run out of dip long before we exhausted chips and breads. The smarter diner at our table requested stick celery for her dipping enjoyment.
For dinner, I chose the Jack Daniel’s maple glazed salmon on rice and vegetables. My one partner had the sirloin steak with smashers (twice mashed potatoes) and an extra skillet of sauteed mushrooms (which us other two diners stole from). The smart dining partner filled up on the balsamic blueberry feta salad.
With only two drinks (and no desserts), this was still an expensive outing. But then that’s why God created gift cards.
Fortunately, we did not discover the expected hair in the cutlery napkin until we had finished eating.
