September 2007 - We tried out the newest Mexicali Rosa’s location. This tex-mex restaurant is located in the Kanata Centrum complex in the former crab shack restaurant. This is by far the nicest looking (inside and out) of the many Mexicali restaurants.
We also went there to experience the new menu. I suspect that the new menu includes higher prices as the four of us spent $100 without purchasing appetizers or alcohol. Even so, we ate very well. I was the only one to lick my dinner plate clean. We arrived before 5 pm so the service was great and the place was quiet.
The restaurant was out of ceviche but we made do. Our less adventurous diner enjoyed a pasta dinner. I enjoyed the tilapia. My partner enjoyed our server’s recommendation: the outrageous chimi. And our fourth diner couldn’t finish her delicious gordita which I will be trying next time.
We tried different desserts but the traditional choice is still the deep fried ice cream.
