January 2008 - We first fell in love with Dick’s Drive In and Dairy Dip because of the ‘intentional’ misspellings in the original menus. Each time the word ‘burger’ appeared in the menu, the spelling of bruger was unique. The special bargers include veggie, turkey, Mediterranean, salmon, chicken and Alberta bison. Interestingly, the three of us ordered no bugbers today. Those old menus are now collectors’ items as the owner grew tired of being laughed at.
Size matters, so today I enjoyed a foot-long chili and cheese dog. I’m not a Little Richard kind of guy. My one partner enjoyed a large poutine with bacon (okay?). My other dining partner had chili and cheese fries - a nice healthy meal (not!). For that extra-retro feeling, I had a Coke float with my long dog. Junior enjoyed a bottle - no, two bottles - of Stewart’s root beer.
Dick’s is located in a very old building. The furnace was broken during our recent visit. Leave your coats on. Beware of the dangerous journey down the stairs to the Dick and Jane rooms.
Prices have gone up.
