June 2008 - The roost, the urban smokehouse, is located on Watters in Orleans. The restaurant’s entrance is shared with The Works so diners get to enjoy the great blues music that usually permeates The Works' relaxed atmosphere.
The roost specializes in maple smoked chicken. I will be returning just for the chicken gumbo which came with the signature triangular corn muffin. However, my dining partner was not impressed by the soup.
Each chicken thing or chicken dinner comes with a cold or hot side dish. For this visit, I enjoyed the grilled veggie and sweet potato skewers. My partner chose the chilly thai mango cashew salad. I’m not a mango fan but still thought it was yummy. In my next visit, I plan on testing the double smoked bacon and chipotle potato salad for my side dish.
As well as another corn muffin, the dinner includes the “Q” sauce which is pure & simple, sweet n spicy, hotter than hell or smokin’ bar-b Q. I was pleased with my strange tasting sweet n spicy. My partner’s hotter than hell dipping sauce was a bit too hot for my frail taste buds.
