July 2008 - Remember back to when you were a kid and your grandparents would take you out for lunch in the cafeteria-style restaurant away in the back of Woolworth’s department store. The food was predictable (almost home style) but there was lots more to choose from their menu than from Mom’s kitchen. The desserts were decent. The bench seats were comfy and the table tops were always too wiggly.
That’s all still there but now I know the real reason we went there so long ago: it’s affordable. My dining partner had a hot dog meal for only $3.49. I splurged and ordered a “halibut good burger” meal. My partner had curly fries but they were identical to my fries, no added spice, just curlier.
We shared a piece of lemon meringue pie which was not to die for. But hey, service was quick and professional. The food was okay and the prices were awesome.
So when you are next shopping in Place d’Orleans mall, make a date with the grand kids. It’ll be your treat.
