| "Great Location" |

by Ron (from Woodstock, ON) January 2008 - My son and I wanted to stay close to the Parliament Buildings to attend a business meeting at the Senate in Ottawa so he booked us into the Fairmont Chateau Laurier hotel--right next door. On-site parking is handy, although pricey at $23 per day. We were checked in efficently and pleased with the overall decor in our room. The Chateau is an old hotel but, if our room is any indication, furrnishings were totally up-to-date and new. The beds were firm and excellent for a welcome good night's sleep. Bathroom facilites were first rate and included robes on the bathroom door. Lots of toiletries and towels. New flat screen tv with remote was nice.
We had two occasions to visit the bar, one for an early afternoon refresher drink and business meeting after a long car ride and later for an 'after meeting/dinner' drink around 8:00. Lounge service was excellent, lots of great atmosphere, and quiet enough for us to chat comfortably.
Our roomrate was only $179 for the night, which considering the majesty, newness, and great location, an excellent. price. Our walk to our meeting in the Senate was about 5 minutes and it we were close to everything in downtown Ottawa that we might want to walk to and see. We highly recommend this hotel.

| "High tea to the nines" |

by Jessica (from Ottawa) October 2007 - How decadent! The Chateau Laurier for tea! With my mother visiting, it was the perfect opportunity to take advantage of such an old-fashioned gem. The Chateau for tea is an old colonial pass-time in Ottawa - something so traditional it is a novelty to attend in modern times. Booking our sitting in advance (the last tea sitting available is at 5pm), we arrived and ordered one of three "tea" options. I opted for the more conventional "High Tea" - which comes with small, crustless hand sandwiches, homemade scones with fresh cream and jam, a wedge of lemon pound cake and a fruit tart. After our individual 'towers' of tea goodies arrived (a three plated apperatus with the sandwiches, scones, and desserts) for each of us, the substantial wooden tea cart was wheeled over for our selection. Over twenty teas were presented and explained. As each of us selected the tea of our choice, it was scooped into our own pot, and then filled from a brass vat of hot water containing a huge recevoir. The Chateau Laurier's tea room is one of a kind atmospherically - looking over Ottawa's busy downtown Rideau street - one feels whisked away by the lush and refined. Although, the environment is also somewhat sterile, and the tea goodies provided are totally unhealthy!
