| "Royal Oak in the Glebe" |

by David (from Orleans) July 2008 - Sadly, their vindaloo is no longer on the menu. Nevertheless, it was a yummy stop at the Royal Oak pub, this time in the Glebe. For the first time in my life, I had a fried pickle. While resembling a deep-fried zucchini stick, I soon learned otherwise. With one burning bite I encountered a length-wise slice of dill pickle. It wasn’t too bad.
For the main course, I stuck to a choice from previous visits, the pot pie of beef soaked in Stilton. This entree has a taste like none other. Even without the many mushrooms, this dish would still taste very earthy.
At half the price of mine, my dining partner enjoyed an antojito which is actually just an appetizer. I think that this antojito was overdone from waiting on my pot pie.
The third member of our foursome ordered the black and blue salad - with no onion. Sadly, her salad arrived with onions and brown lettuce and was promptly replaced. The black and blue salad came with lots of melted blue cheese. So if you like that kind of thing, go for it.
Our other diner ordered a boring club sandwich but then he just needed any old thing as an excuse to order more Stella.
Dessert was not required.

by David (from Orleans) March 2008 - There are ten locations in greater Ottawa. Three of us visited the Kanata restaurant on March Road late on a Sunday night. Our visit was between the supper rush and the arrival of the late-night bar patrons who were arriving as we left. Despite being the only table dining, we had access to the full menu.
Thinking that we were bringing some snacks home to the guys who would not join us, we ordered the expansive appetizer known as the Oak Combo: chicken wings, chicken fingers, spicy fries, garlic cheese bread, zucchini sticks and three dips. We mentioned to staff that our guys-at-home would not eat spicy wings and the barkeep graciously offered up his personal bottle of spicy Thai sauce to add to our wings.
I enjoyed the lamb vindaloo which was as tasty as any that I've had at Balti houses in London, England. That entree came with rice and plenty of nan bread - enough for even me the breadaholic.
My one dining partner had been challenged by my other dining partner to try the poached salmon entree. The baby roasted potatoes were nice and her salmon was much more tasty (and healthier) than a deep-fried-fish choice.
I didn't notice any dart boards but there was an active billiards room at the back of the establishment.

by Jean (from Calgary) March 2008 - After driving for half hour to find this place, it was certainly a delight for me to find. On this particular night we were able to grab the last table available and just in time for the evening entertainment. This is a cozy English type pub situated in the “high tech” section of Kanata, just outside of Ottawa. The staff was friendly but a little over worked this night. The four of us ordered up the Oak Combo to start and there was enough for us all to munch on. Included on the large tray were crispy chicken fingers and wings. And one of my favorites was the zucchini strips. We finally decided to order dinner and I was not disappointed. I asked for their homemade chicken pot pie with puff pastry. I had to allow a little extra time for them to cook it up. Boy oh boy it was worth the wait. It was tremendous and the portion was huge. It was full of plump chunks of chicken and lots of veggies. It came with a lovely light fresh salad and choice of potato. I was very thankful for the chance to try out this place
