March 2008 - On a blustering winter storm day in March we found this unassuming gem along the Somerset asian restaurant strip. Set in a small strip mall complex, Fuschian doesn't stand out as an inviting atmosphere to enter into. However, you'd be wrong. Upon entering this wife and husband run business, we were immediately met with the warm smile of a couple who seemed to be in wonderful health. Both with glowing skin, their smiles radiated warmth. We were escorted to our simple kitchen table and encouraged to try the special: beef, chicken or pork skewers marinated in lemongrass. Both my friend and I aren't big meat fans, so we asked if we could have the skewers with shrimp, which they were happy to oblige. Ultimately, we ended up with two small orders of vegetable soup, two rice paper spring rolls, and a black pepper salmon on a bed of white rice. The meal came to $25 with tax for both of us and it was outstanding given the price. The soup was absolutely delicious - a moderately hot and spicy broth reminiscent of thai flavoring with an assortment of vegetables floating about. The spring rolls were as healthy as ever - rice paper stuffed with fresh mint and shredded carrot along with vermicelli noodles. Our salmon wasn't the best quality (how could it be for $10?) however the marinade was delicious - a sweet, caramelized onion mixed with some sort of homemade hoisin style sauce. With such a reasonably priced dinner - I would definitely come back. Just don't expect a fine dining atmosphere.
