February 2009 - I have never eaten Sri Lankan food before and I was quite excited to find this cozy place at Sommerset and Bank St. in Ottawa's Centretown. I loved the atmosphere at first sight! many traditional paintings on bamboo mats adorn the walls and it makes the space feel bright and jovial. The server was nice enough but nothing special. The food, for me, was a total disappointment. Dishes were overpriced and overall I felt like nothing was prepared freshly. It could have been a simple matter of ordering the wrong dishes but I am hesitant to go back based on how much I spent the first time. 3 of us dined there for $90 and that was with 1 beer each. If I am going to spend this much I expect better quality from my food. The one thing I would go back is their vegetarian platter which is a small serving of rice accompanied by a range of vegetarian dishes. Someone else at my table ordered it and from the way it looked, it seemed very worth its $9 price tag. I hear that they have a decent lunch buffet so I will try this out in hopes of better results.
